If you’ve gone through a traumatic experience or suffered repeated trauma, you may be struggling with upsetting emotions, frightening memories, or a sense of constant danger that you just can’t get rid of. Whether the trauma is past or recent, your mind and body experiences it as if it just happened. The trauma may have left you feeling numb, disconnected, and unable to trust other people or yourself. There is a sense that these bad things are just around the corner and will happen again. When you experienced the trauma, your set off an alarm in your brain telling your mind and body that it’s in danger. Whatever you needed to do to keep you safe and help you survived worked when you are younger. However,  the problem is your brain has not turned off the alarm. It’s like you are still in that “fight or flight” mode. What you need to do is to retrain your mind and body to understand that danger is over. Lifespan Integration and EMDR, along with the self-help strategies and support from family and friends, can speed your recovery from physical, emotional and psychological trauma. Whether the traumatic event happened years ago or yesterday, you can heal and get your life back.
